The Artistic One.

We would love to introduce you all to our lovely Grace Benson, she is the primary typesetter and UK sales assistant here at Shachihata (Europe) Ltd HQ! Just so you can get to know her better we have interviewed her! Here it goes……

How long have you worked here at Shachihata for?

I have worked here since November 2020, so about a year and a half. I started as a temporary worker, to cover a colleagues’ maternity leave. Luckily after that I was taken on permanently!

What do you like most about working here?

I like how friendly and approachable my colleagues are. Everyone helps each other out with their problems. We are able to talk and have a laugh with each other.

I also like how varied to work is. Each day seems to have different tasks and challenges, so it doesn’t get boring!

Where do you see the company in 5 years’ time?

I think the company will continue to grow, especially within the trade industry, due to the success of the EKPR range. I am hoping that we can also find more success within the arts and crafts industry, as I personally think pens such as the supreme brush marker, and drawing system are great to use. I see these markers are used a lot by people on Instagram; so there is plenty of customer interest in these pens!

Your artwork is amazing!!!! Have you always had an artistic flair?

Thank you! I have always liked doodling. It’s a good hobby to relax with, as it lets you focus and empty your head of stress. I’ve been drawing since I was little, even when I wasn’t suppose to, like in a boring class… I especially like to draw animals, plants and mythical creatures. Anything living in reality or fantasy.

I went to Mid Cheshire College for a general art course. Then I went to Futureworks in Manchester, where I got a degree in Game Art. This included drawing, designing, and 3d modelling. Now I still enjoy drawing as a hobby after work.

What are your favourite Artline pens and markers to use?

It’s hard to decide! I have a few favourites, which are all specifically for art. The Drawing System pens are good for creating stylised art with thick black outlines. The ink is nice and dark on the page. The range of pen nib sizes means you can find the right one for your needs. There is a new brush nib for the Drawing System that is lovely to use.

I also really enjoy the Supreme Brush Markers. Brush nibs are brilliant, as they give you control over the line width. You can draw thin and thin lines with the same pen, depending on the pressure and angle you are drawing with. These markers come in a wide range of colours, so you can always find the colour you need. They are also excellent for blending colours together, and can even be used with water to create art that looks just like a watercolour painting!

Decorite are another favourite. The ink is almost like paint rather than regular pen ink. The colours are bright and smooth. You can create some nice art with them if you use them on black or dark paper. The bold colours really stand out.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I like to spend time on my hobbies, such as drawing, and chilling with my many pets. I also really like videogames (which you could probably tell by the course I took!). My PC and Nintendo switch are my favourites to play on.
