World Smile Day – Friday 7th October 2022
This Friday we will be celebrating World Smile Day!
What is World Smile Day?
WSD came about in 1999, when it was decided that one day every year should be devoted to smiles and kind acts throughout the world. It was many years before this though that the basis for the idea was born. In 1963 a man named Harvey Ball was responsible for creating what is now one of the world’s most well-known symbols, better known today as the smiley emoji.
So in 1999, with the smiley face design already recognised as the symbol of good will and good cheer, knowing no politics, geography or religion, it was decided that on WSD neither should the world. The day would aim to encourage people to ‘Do an act of kindness. Help one person smile’. The has resulted in numerous campaigns, featuring; troops, hospitals, celebrities, politicians, circus performers and animals just to name a few.
Why is this relevant to Shachihata?
I guess what we are trying to remind you of is the power that a pen can hold. The three brush strokes of a black marker pen which took less than 10 minutes to create, went on to influence not only a yearly day of smiles and kindness, but the design of many products, music and fashion throughout the past 60 years.
Something so simple, so quick, yet so famous. Shachihata is no exception, with both our stampers and erasers boasting smiley face designs!
Why not make someone smile by drawing them a picture this World Smile Day? Whatever you do to celebrate this year, just remember even the smallest of things have the ability to make a huge change : )
